Dorkbot Newcastle is launching on 5 October at the Centre for Life, part of an international network of “People Doing Strange Things with Electricity” (www.dorkbot.org ) Dorkbot is an opportunity for people interested in making things, physical or digital, to come and talk about their projects and share ideas and thoughts with like-minded individuals.
We’ll be meeting approximately monthly, or as often as we have enough people who have something they want to talk about, in the Welcome Room at the Centre for Life and to launch the first one we have three guest speakers
Evan Raskob (PixelPusher – http://pixelist.info/ ), a Dorkbot London regular, who generates video out of a controlled chaos of photographic images, simple shapes, animations, sounds, and live video feeds. All software is homemade, all imagery is created live; things may go wrong in beautiful ways, and no performance is ever the same. He will be showing show some of his experiments in live drawing, such as JelloTail and his latest project, Cartoon Tentacles
Aaron Nielsen of Oomlout (www.oomlout.com) has recently moved to Leeds from Vancouver to further his business developing Arduino microcontrollers and will be talking about The Joy of Arduinos
Alastair MacDonald, (www.agm.me.uk/blog) Known to many in Newcastle through his involvement in BarCamp and other events will be telling us about and demonstrating one of his percussion machines, which create musical instruments from found objects.
Come along meet other people interested in making stuff, or seeing what others make, and let me know if there is a project you are involved in that you’d like to talk about at a future Dorkbot Newcastle
